Faculty to teach Primate Behavior and or, Primate Behavior and Ecology, field oriented classes:
at La Suerte Biological Field Station, North Eastern Costa Rica.
Independent groups always welcome anytime of the year. We are available for semester classes and travel abroad workshops via your home institution.

Instructor will be responsible for following syllabus, grading, and monitoring filed research for the group, and other tasks. The course covers the behavior and ecology of Old and New World primates from an evolutionary perspective. Emphasis will be given to the three species present at Ometepe: Cebus capucinus, Alouatta palliata. The material and topics covered in this course are equivalent to an upper division university course in primate behavior and ecology. A background in biology or physical anthropology is helpful but not required. It is far more important to have a serious interest in learning about primates and a desire to do field work in a tropical rainforest.
Each day will be a mix of lectures, seminars and fieldwork, but there will be also be opportunities to relax, take care of personal business (laundry, etc.) and explore the forest in small groups. Although the focus while in the field will be on primates and their immediate environment, other flora and fauna of interest will be pointed out and discussed as they are encountered.
Pre-class- Teachers will need to spend some time recruiting students. This could be by doing informal presentations their host College or neighboring colleges. Emailing prospective students and posting posters at school and nearby colleges.
Recruitment can also be aided by teaching assistants. Teaching assistant ratio is as follow. 1 TA with 10 students, 2 TA’s with 15 students, and 3 TA’s with 20 students, 22 students is full class.
Post class-teachers will need to spend some time grading.

Working in the field is demanding and staff will work closely with college age students on a daily basis. We are looking for people who are good natured and can get along with all kinds of personalities and age groups, physically fit, mentally self-reliant and highly responsible. S/he should have PHD degree (preferably Anthropology). Candidates with previous field experience and New World primate field experience are preferred (Cebus capucinus, Alouatta palliata, and Ateles geoffroyi).
