Position Description:
Our internship program is open to people who are seriously interested in pursuing careers in animal care, conservation, education, or advocacy. Interns will be immersed in daily activities on nonprofit sanctuary life. Responsibilities include cleaning animal enclosures, creating enrichment, fundraising activities, preparing diets, washing dishes and laundry, gardening, and otherwise maintaining the facility. In addition to daily husbandry, there will be daily educational sessions in which interns will learn more about varying topics pertaining to both captive and wild chimpanzees. Interns will also be expected to complete a project that they will present to the Chimps Inc. team.
Qualifications/Experience:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Primate experience is not required. Interns should be dedicated, work well both with others and individually, be a self-starter, have a good work ethic, good communication skills, and a healthy attitude. Because this program is labor intensive, applicants should also be in good physical condition. Documentation of current TB test, tetanus shot, Hepatitis B series, and health insurance coverage are required.
Support
provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
Lodging and educational materials will be provided to all interns for a cost of $85.00 per week. This includes a bedroom, bed linens, shared kitchen and bathroom, living area, local phone service and all utilities.
Term of Appointment:
Intern must stay for a minimum of 6 weeks. No maximum.
