Chimpanzee Caregiver

Position Description:
The primary function of this animal care position is to provide all aspects of exceptional care to seven chimpanzees, to maintain sanctuary grounds, and to effectively communicate the mission of Chimps, Inc. to donors and the greater animal welfare community.

Duties and Responsibilities
Animal checks
Prepare and provide diets
Prepare and implement enrichment
Clean and sanitize enclosures and enrichment items
Monitor animal health and administer medication under veterinary supervision
Observe chimpanzee behavior and appearance
Provide behavioral training to chimpanzees
Health, maintenance, and animal behavior record keeping
Participate in intensive training program
Train and supervise interns and volunteers
Participate in educational and fundraising programs as directed
Maintenance of facility and sanctuary grounds
Perform related duties as required

Ability to work in a team environment, follow directions, and communicate effectively
Ability to adapt to work and schedule changes in response to animal needs
Must have an aptitude for the care and well-being of animals
Duties may require driving Chimps, Inc. vehicles, must have a valid driver?s license
Must be able to climb and maintain body equilibrium while performing job duties
Must possess ability to lift 40 lbs and to stoop, sit, twist, and walk on uneven terrain
Ability to work indoors and outdoors in all conditions

Education: Bachelor?s degree in Biology, Animal Science, Anthropology, Zoology, or related field; or equivalent work experience. Experience at all levels will be considered.

All selected candidates must undergo a complete background and professional reference check. This position requires working on weekends and holidays and is subject to 24-hour on-call availability. Typical hours of work are 8:00am-5:00pm.
