Position Description:
Valley Biosystems (VBS) is an AAALACi accredited research facility that specializes in non-human primates. VBS is seeking a dynamic and motivated Laboratory Animal Veterinarian with a research focus to join our team.
This role?s responsibilities include but may not be limited to:
Be part of a veterinary team that provides high quality veterinary and preventative medicine for the non-human primate colony.
Provide veterinary support for research activities, ie physical exams, perform surgical procedures oversee anesthetic procedures, provide post-operative care and monitoring.
Ensure veterinary medical record and scientific data are record in compliance with GLP regulations.
Direct support for development and maintenance of guidelines, processes and procedures to meet federal, state and local regulatory requirements and AAALAC accreditation standards
Contribute to study design and implementation
Perform the role of Principal Investigator (PI) when needed.
Assist in the writing and review of Institutional Animal Care and Use (IACUC) protocols, veterinary consultations and post-approval programs
Active membership with the IACUC
Develop and manage a team of in vivo technical staff
Assist in Training Program management and perform training of staff in technical procedural skills including anesthesia, surgical skills, pathology, and other common veterinary techniques for macaques
On-call veterinarian support (shared duties)

Basic Qualifications
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM)
2 years of non-human primate experience
Ability to obtain California veterinary license and USDA endorsement.
Interest in surgical procedures and anesthesia support
Preferred Qualifications
Board Certification from the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM)
Working knowledge of non-human primate pathology
3-5 years of experience with non-human primates
Previous demonstration of surgical skills in non-human primates.
Postdoctoral residency training in laboratory animal medicine
Exemplary communication, professionalism and interpersonal skills
Experience managing and leading teams in a matrixed organization
Experience working in a regulatory environment including AWA, PHS, AAALACi, and GLPs.
Experience in an environment requiring partnership and collaboration with a broad audience of contributors in which communication and management skills achieve results
Previous experience with CDC quarantine of nonhuman primates
Experience in Institutional Animal Care and Use protocol writing, review process, and committee membership
Research/ project management experience
