Position Description:
The Centre for Animal Rehabilitation and Education is based in a nature reserve between Hoedspruit and Phalaborwa, Limpopo, South Africa - we are looking for vets and nurses to join out team for a minimum of 2 weeks, but also ideally looking to fill longer-term roles (6 months to 1 year).

As the vet, you will be responsible for the care and treatment of all baboons who are admitted to the clinic.

Your duties include (but are not limited to):

* Keeping the veterinary clinic clean; cleaning the animal holding enclosures, the indoor Vet kitchen/Laundry/Office/organising the supply cupboard and patient areas
* Caring for all in-patients; cleaning, medicating, observing patients/feeding patients, preparing their food and stocking up on their food from the main feedstore/animal kitchen
* Working closely with the management staff to discuss diagnosis of patients and work together to determine and carryout care plans
* Supervising, training, educating and engaging with any extra vets or vet nurses who come to volunteer
* Providing a learning experience for volunteers (usually a fecal sample/test lesson)
* Developing enrichment for baboons in the clinic and giving various enrichments at least 3 times a day
* Maintaining clinic records (both on paper and electronically)
* Ensuring that the clinic and surrounding area is clean and presentable on a daily basis
* Ensuring all areas of the clinic (indoor and outdoor) are organised and clean
* Learn to use dart gun to administer vaccines / contraceptives etc. (if your qualification/skills allow)
* Assist in all areas of centre operations as needed; as part of the team spirit all team members are expected to assist in all areas of centre operations when and as needed; e.g. enclosure cleaning daily if there are no patients to clean out, food prep / bottle prep / giving for all rehabilitation (non-clinic) individuals as asked, supervising orphan baboons, enrichment making for sanctuary and baboons undergoing rehabilitation, cleaning/feeding etc. as needed.

Qualifications/Experience:
Qualified veterinarians and vet nurses only (ideally qualifications recognised by the Royal Veterinary College).

Salary/funding:
No salary can be provided if your qualifications and experience allows you will receive all meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner), basic accommodation, 1GB of Wifi for personal use each month (you can purchase more) and training to work with baboons in return for your time, efforts, team spirit and ideally some medications (such as antibiotics, pain relief and deworming meds) in your suitcase!

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
Meals and accommodation provided. Meals are basic, vegetarian cooked for you / served breakfast, lunch and dinner. Accommodation may be shared dependable on length of stay, communal living areas (lounge with Wifi, flushing toilets, electricity and running hot water (usually - but This Is Africa so expect some time without) ).

Term of Appointment:
2 weeks minimum, 1 year max
