Position Description:
We are looking for field assistants for a long-term project investigating the behaviour and ecology of pig-tailed macaques (Macaca nemestrina).
The study will be conducted in the Segari Melintang Forest Reserve, Perak, Peninsular Malaysia. The work of the field assistant will include habituation and behavioural data collection on the macaques as well as faecal sample collection for genetic analyses.

Bachelor in anthropology, biology, ecology or any other relevant field is required.
The language in our team will be English but the willingness to learn basic Bahasa Malaysia is expected.

Previous field experience is welcome but not required.
Experience of working in tropical conditions under demanding physical exercise is helpful as monkeys are followed from dawn to dusk (about 10h a day; 5 days a week) in a tropical rain forest.

In general, applicants should be:
- physically fit and mentally strong with very good social skills
- able to work independently within our team
- feeling comfortable living under basic conditions and being far away from family/friends
- willing to adapt to a foreign culture and a tropic climate
- willing to work alone in the forest
- emotionally mature, friendly, energetic and very patient
- able to maintain a positive attitude towards hard and tiring work.

Currently not available (for long-term assistants, accommodation and food can be negotiated)

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
There is no funding available at the moment. Airfare is about 600-800 Euro from Europe, housing and food costs are approximately 200 Euro/month.

Term of Appointment:
We are constantly looking for new team members. A minimum of 3 month commitment is required, but a longer duration of stay is preferred.
