Wildlife Rescue Veterinary Clinic Internship

Hiring Organization:
Kids Saving the Rainforest

Date Posted:

Position Description:
We need your help in Costa Rica! We are a wildlife rescue and sanctuary, and we urgently need an intern to start late July/August 2018 in our veterinary clinic. You will work with animals such as two and three toed sloths, several species of monkeys, parrots, kinkajous, etc. This internship will help prepare you for a career in Veterinary Medicine. You will assist our veterinary team in the clinic performing exams, treatments, surgeries, and various procedures. You will assist in the intake of injured and orphaned wildlife, provide routine daily cleaning and feeding for the animals currently residing in the clinic, and assist in necropsies to determine cause of death. Interns should expect a busy, highly variable environment with a high number of emergency cases coming in at a moment's notice. Interns will also assist in our rescue center, helping rehabilitate wildlife as they prepare for their release back into the wild. The internship can be tailored to the needs of a university program.

We are seeking serious, passionate individuals with the desire to dedicate themselves to work in the wildlife/animal fields. Some experience working with animals is preferred, particularly in a clinic setting. Coursework in veterinary studies/pre-vet track, animal behavior/science, primatology, zoology, environmental education, wildlife ecology or a related field is recommended. Spanish language skills (not strictly neccesary), as well as experience traveling to a tropical country and living in remote conditions are preferred. All interns must complete required vaccinations and purchase current international health insurance while in Costa Rica.

Volunteers pay $2950 for an 85 day internship, which is $35 a day. We can extend the internship if desired.

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
Includes all accommodations, food, and training and support by an experienced staff. Invaluable experience working in a veterinary clinic with wildlife in a rescue and rehabilitation setting.

Term of Appointment:
