We are currently seeking an Animal Facility Specialist II - Technical Supervisor to serve at the National Institutes of Health in Poolesville, Maryland.

OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of Animal Facility Specialist II for the NIH, Laboratory Animal Research Contract (LARC). This description is not inclusive of all duties required to successfully complete the job each day. It is intended to reflect SoBran?s contractual obligations to the LARC. Employees are expected to complete all assigned duties each day.

This position?s responsibilities include:

- Understand and follow all SOPs and Quality Assurance Standards
- Coordinate daily tasks to ensure everything is completed in a thorough and efficient
manner
- Manage a team of veterinary technicians to ensure everyone is working as an efficient
and cohesive team
- Develop and foster effective teamwork with staff and management team
- Set and clarify goals for staff, prioritizes and coordinates work schedules
- Lead by ways that exceed the expectation of the staff
- Use imagination and creativity when seeking solutions to problems, considers the
potential impact on other areas of the program
- Identify and communicate signs of abnormal health and behavior in multiple species
- Communicate any animal issues with vet staff and relay information to husbandry staff
- Work with Government client and assist with all tasks as needed
- Identify and fix facility related maintenance issues
- Conduct a weekly facility walk through and identify any issues and follow up with staff
to ensure all items have been resolved
- Safely and correctly handle and restrain animals for observation and procedure
- Collect and record physiological data (pulse, respiration, heart rate, body temperature,
etc.)
- Calculate drug dosages and administration frequencies
- Maintain drug inventory according to DEA reporting standards
- Maintain and QA medical records
- Assist the veterinarians and research staff with surgical preparations and procedures
- Collect, preserve and prepare blood, urine, stool, and tissue samples for testing and
shipment
- Prepare and administer clinical treatments as directed (Topical, PO, IM, SQ, IV, ID) to
critical and chronic animals.(Weekends)
- Identify and report abnormal animal behavior
- Provide technical guidance and training to level I and II staff
- Assist with breeding colony management and record keeping
- Collect post-mortem specimens for shipment or evaluation
- Interview potential applicants for open positions
- Create daily and monthly reports
- Conduct disciplinary sessions and performance reviews
- Participate in/ present weekly facility related or SOP training
- Read and edit SOP?s as needed
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned

Required Schedule: All employees are expected to arrive to work at the time specified for the position to which they are assigned. Work hours typically occur between 6:00 am and 5:30 pm M-F. These assignments may include working on weekends and holidays and will be at the discretion of the Program Management Staff. Weekend/Holiday hours range from 5:30 am ? 3:30 pm.

Qualifications/Experience:
Required Experience: 5 years of experience in the Laboratory Animal field working with multiple species preferred, will consider candidates with comparable experience and length of service in companion animal practice.

Required Education:

Employees? appointed to the position of Animal Facility Specialist II must meet one of the following standards prior to appointment:

- A Bachelor?s degree in one of the Physical Sciences, Animal Sciences, or related
discipline
- Associate?s degree in Veterinary Technology and practical experience in the required
position

Certification: Existing LAT certification and complete LATG within 1 year of hire/eligibility required
