The Research Assistant at the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) will be responsible for overseeing behavioral management for nonhuman primates (NHPs). Responsibilities will include performing social introductions (either pairs or groups of NHPs), monitor socially housed NHPs for compatibility, assess behavioral needs of NHPs and provide appropriate enrichment, assist with program utilizing Operant Conditioning to train NHPs to cooperate with husbandry and research procedures; contribute to the design and implementation of research devoted to psychological well being of research animals, including assessing and improving psychological well being methods; data collection, entry, and analysis; responsible for specific phases of research projects; review literature and regulatory sources to evaluate and recommend implementation of psychological well being plans and protocols.


?Bachelor's degree in Biology, Zoology, Psychology, or Anthropology
?Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate positively and effectively in oral and written formats, with research, administrative, and support staff regarding the needs and goals of the program
?Ability to interact with NHPs in a calm, respectful manner
?Ability to read and follow oral and written instructions, use basic computer programs (including spreadsheets and graphics programs) and simple hand/power tools
?Ability to think strategically and work accordingly, producing effective results and working efficiently within the time constraints of the position
?Ability to work both independently and in group settings
?Ability to prioritize work demands, and coordinate BSU programs with other staff and departments
?Valid Driver's License and the ability to drive DCM/ONPRC vehicles on and off campus
?Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 26 pounds
?Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications:
?1 year experience in a research setting
?Coursework in animal behavior and/or primate biology
?Proficient in Microsoft suite and statistical programs

?FTE: 1.0, Full Time
?Schedule: Monday - Friday,7:30am - 4:00pm, but may be required to work nights, weekends and holidays as required by the scope of the position
?Salary Range: $31,251 - $35,000
