Volunteer Field Research Assistant- Human-macaque interactions in Malaysia

Position Description:
We are seeking one volunteer assistant for a study on human-macaque interactions (Macaca fascicularis) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The assistant will be responsible for collecting data on human-macaque interactions as well as assist in performing cognitive testing on the foraging extraction abilities of urban macaques. Data collection will include behavioral observations of macaque-macaque interactions, human-macaque interactions, as well as experimental cognitive testing. The term of the position will be 3 months.

What do volunteers get out of it?
-The opportunity to observe free-ranging macaques in Malaysia's capitol city, Kuala Lumpur.
-The opportunity to learn new skills and gain experience in behavioral and/or cognitive data collection.
-The opportunity to be involved in a long-term project on coupled human and natural systems, hosted by a R1 research university.

Qualifications/Experience:
These positions are open to all with an interest in animal behavior and cognition. Additional interests may include psychology, anthropology, urban ecology, or other related fields.

The ideal application should:
- Have a background in biology, psychology, anthropology, primatology or related field.
- Be flexible, patient, and easy-going, one who can take field-work challenges in stride.
- Be able to work in a team, as well as independently.
- Be enthusiastic, motivated, reliable and highly committed to scientific research.
- Be healthy and physically fit to perform data collection duties and experimental procedures.

Salary/funding:
One volunteer field assistant position is currently available. No salary is provided, but all meals and accommodations will be covered by the project.

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
All meals and accommodations are covered for this position. Additionally, round-trip airfare to the field site may be reimbursed upon successful completion of the term of appointment (given pending funds and overall project costs). Assistants will be responsible for their own travel/health insurance and necessary vaccinations.

Term of Appointment:
3 months- from the beginning of July to late September 2018
