Volunteer Research Assistants: Scent-marking behaviour of ring-tailed lemurs at St. Catherines Island

Position Description:
Seeking three volunteer field assistants to assist with data collection on the spatial distribution of scent-marks in ring-tailed lemurs at St. Catherines Island, Georgia.

The assistant will be responsible for the following:
- Collecting behavioural data (scent-marking, feeding, grooming, etc.)
- Tracking individual scent-marks with a handheld GPS unit
- Transferring written data to an Excel sheet

A commitment of 10 weeks is required. Be prepared to work 9 hours a day for 6 days a week in hot weather, with a lot of walking.

The field site is located off the coast of Georgia about 25 miles south of Savannah. Assistants will live in cabins (2 per cabin) with electricity, hot showers, a kitchen, and internet.

Qualifications/Experience:
1) At least 20 years of age
2) Fluent in English
3) At least working on or already obtained a Bachelor?s degree in ecology, zoology, primatology, biology, animal behaviour, or a related field. Field experience is an asset.
4) Mature, reliable, flexible, and patient individuals, capable of working alone and as part of a team
5) Ability to both follow instructions and make independent decisions when necessary
6) In good physical and mental health
7) Capable of sharing a living space with others and maintaining a reasonable level of cleanliness
8) Excited about wildlife, and motivated to gain fieldwork experience

Salary/funding:
This is a volunteer position

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
The cost of accommodation, local travel expenses, and special equipment (rite-in-the-rain books and pens, GPS units) will be covered by the PI.

Volunteers would need to cover their own travel expenses to and from Savannah, GA, as well as the costs of basic field gear and groceries.

10 weeks (May 20 ? July 30, 2018)
