SoBran is seeking an Animal Care Technician II to serve at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland (LARC 11).

OVERVIEW: Responsibilities of this position are that of a Laboratory Animal Caretaker I for the NIH, Animal Care Project. These responsibilities include all activities required for the proper care and maintenance of on-site animals.

Primary duties may include the following:

- Understand and follows all SOP?s and Quality Assurance Standards
- Perform daily animal health checks and reports any abnormal animal conditions to the
veterinary technician and /or floor supervisor
- Feed all Non-human Primates the appropriate number of biscuits twice a day unless
otherwise directed by the veterinarian
- Receive and transfer Non-human primates
- Check automatic water system to ensure proper function and / or refill water bottles
with fresh water daily
- Clean and disinfect animal holding rooms using designated disinfectant daily. Correctly
collect swabs to monitor room sanitation.
- Safely handle and dispose of hazardous waste. (eg. Package for autoclaving or
incineration, arrange special pick-up for chemical/radiological waste, document
use/disposal as directed).
- Sanitize all cage/rack units via the facility cage washer every 14 days. Decontaminate
all holding areas every 14 days.
- Maintain written records, logs, charts
- Sweep and mop corridors
- Assist Behaviorist?s staff in pair housing of selected NHP?s
- Provide enrichment devices to NHP?s identified by Behaviorist?s staff
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned

Required Schedule: All employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned, arrive to work at 7:00 am and depart at 3:30 pm M-F. Weekend work is required as scheduled. The weekend hours are from 6:00 am to 12:00 pm. In addition you will be expected to work extra hours during an emergency situation or if any unexpected situation arise until work is completed.

Qualifications/Experience:
Required Education:

- A High School Diploma or equivalent. College Degree preferred
Certification: Employees should hold a current AALAS certification at the ALAT level or higher
Required Experience: Some previous experience preferred
