Primate Enrichment Technician III

Position Description:
This position involves a variety of tasks related to the implementation and maintenance of the environmental enhancement program for nonhuman primates and other laboratory animal species as directed by the head of the Unit of Behavioral Management. This technician oversees aspects of the daily operations of the Unit of Behavioral Management including the scheduling of social introductions and the maintenance of related record keeping. S/he serves as a resource in the management of social introductions and additional aspects of behavioral management. This technician supervises the administration of special behavioral interventions for quarantined animals and those housed in our Biosafety Level 3 facility. In addition, s/he ensures that the facility complies with federal regulations for care and maintenance of research animals, and is responsible for assisting Unit Manager in training and supervision of Enrichment Technicians. This position involves serving as a Unit Supervisor when the Unit Manager is absent.
The TNPRC maintains Biosafety Level 3 facilities and performs work on diverse infectious agents many of which can cause serious disease in humans if standard operating procedures, including use of appropriate personal protective equipment, are not followed. Depending on agent specific risk assessments individuals may be offered, or in some cases required to have vaccinations against the relevant agents.

Qualifications/Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with a background in behavioral sciences and four (4) years of experience in laboratory animal care. OR: High school diploma or equivalent and six (6) years of experience in laboratory animal care plus AALAS LAT certification

There will be additional minimum requirements associated with work in the Biosafety Level 3 facility, including some or all of the following:
- Must pass a US Department of Justice Security Risk Assessment for access to select biological agents and toxins
- Must have the ability to perform job duties while wearing respiratory protection
- Must participate in drug and alcohol program and be in compliance with TNPRC drug and alcohol policy

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a Biosafety Level 3 environment
