Primate Enrichment Technician II

Position Description:
Performs a variety of tasks related to the implementation, maintenance, and refinement of the Tulane National Primate Research Center behavioral management program, including social management, animal training, inanimate enrichment, monitoring of behavioral wellbeing, and planning, implementing, and evaluating intervention for animals in need of individualized therapy. Collects behavioral data and maintains documentation of program activities and outcomes in order to guide the implementation of the program and ensure continued regulatory compliance. Contributes to new employee training for husbandry staff and serves as a resource for husbandry-implemented environmental enhancements and other activities impacting psychological wellbeing.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with a background in behavioral sciences and 2 years experience in laboratory animal care OR 4 years experience in laboratory animal care plus certification as an AALAS LAT OR 6 years of experience in laboratory animal care.

The successful candidate will also have the following skills:
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, including excellent time management and organizational skills
Ability to take a team approach in an environment of collaboration between behavioral management, veterinary, husbandry, and research personnel.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent computer skills, including knowledge of standard office software
Ability to perform data management
The demonstrated ability to work with nonhuman primates and other laboratory animal species without jeopardizing the health of said nonhuman primates and other laboratory animal species.
