Position Description:
The Animal Resources Program (ARP) of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC is seeking an Assistant Director to join their team.

JOB SUMMARY: Involved in the clinical care of laboratory animals at Wake Forest University, providing oversight of the ARP operations and veterinary care on a specific campus. The position may be a staff position in the Animal Resources Program or a faculty cross-appointment in the Section of Comparative Medicine, Department of Pathology, with duties and responsibilities that include effort for the teaching and research missions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Direct supervision of the Operations Manager and Veterinary Technicians on the Bowman Gray Campus, which is one of three campus units
* Oversee operations of a surgical facility
* Participate in the planning and monitoring of the ARP budget
* Oversee the daily operations of the Rodent Surveillance Program on the Bowman Gray Campus
* Assist investigators with day to day needs and other special needs to ensure timely completion of research objectives
* Provide veterinary medical care directly, through supervision, or delegation for animals, primarily on the Bowman Gray Campus, but also on the other campuses, as needed
* Assist the ARP Director with procedures and documents required to maintain compliance with the Animal Welfare Act, Public Health Service Policy, The Guide, and other applicable rules and regulations
* Oversee import and export rodents to and from the Bowman Gray Campus
* Preparation and presentation of training materials to technical staff
* Participation in veterinary training programs, oversee clinical rotation for ACLAM residents
* Participation with the IACUC, including monthly protocol review, semiannual inspections, and development/improvement of ongoing training for investigators

Qualifications/Experience:
Candidates must have received the D.V.M. or V.M.D. degree from an institution accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and three years of veterinary practice experience. Board certification in Laboratory Animal Medicine is preferred, board eligibility is required. Skills in verbal and written communication are essential. Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service. Applicants should also have demonstrable experience and skills in management and supervision, facility design, rodent and primate colony management and disease control, and an interest in collaborative research as evidenced by publications in peer reviewed journals.

Salary/funding:
Salary will be commensurate with responsibilities and experience.
