Position Description:
MJ is a rescue center for primates, as well as many other animals and a 7 course Zip line. It is a combined tourist attraction that solicits guest to participate in an experience to raise funds for its non-profit medical and dental clinic for the local indigent of D.R. and Haiti. We currently have 2 position available immediately working with primates, other animals and guests. Participants will spend the majoring of their day caring for 50+primates, birds, donkeys, and various other animals. The position requires greeting guests and checking them in, giving education tours through the animal sanctuary and generally seeing that all of the animals and their areas are cleaned and that they are happy, healthy and loved. Many come from very abusive situations and need lots of patients and TLC. Positions may at times require assisting the vet in treatment of the animals, and working shifts around the clock when an injured or youth animal comes in. Generally, the rotation of 5 days a week is scheduled.

Compassion and love of animals, specifically primates is number 1. A positive attitude and a willingness to learn from each experience is a must. Primate or wild animal experience preferred but not required depending on education and other experiences. The ideal applicant is self-motivated and enjoys creating new activities and enrichment for the animals. English required. Additionally, Spanish, French, German or Russian is a plus. The applicant must be comfortable working around staff of many different nationalities and with guest coming from all over the world. Applicants that commit to 1 year will have their flight and exit fees reimbursed. Shorter stys (ideally lasting at least 6 months) will only be provided a daily stipend and lunch. Applicants should be 23 years of age or older at start date.

Starting daily living stipend is 500 RD per day (equivalent of approx. $12 USD per day). All stipends are commensurate with experience and education. Tips for tours are frequently given, but not guaranteed.

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
Airfare from home address is refundable after the completion of 12 month contract, as well as all visa fees and return flight. On site housing and all housing expenses provided along with daily lunch. Local shared Internet provided.
