Position Description:
The Limbe Wildlife Centre (LWC) is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF) and the Pandrillus Foundation, an US non-profit NGO. LWC is a Sanctuary and Rehabilitation Centre for wild orphaned animals seized by the MINFOF Anti-Poaching and Surveillance Units. The main objectives of the LWC are to insure the survival of confiscated animals, the majority of which are protected species in the Republic of Cameroon, and to prepare them for being capable of living in the natural Central African Forest again; to raise awareness of the serious threats hanging over the exceptional Wildlife of Cameroon and of the need to protect it through the LWC Conservation Education Programme; and generate alternative in comes and conduct in-partnership activities with local communities.

As a volunteer at Limbe Wildlife Centre, you will be able to play an active role in conservation by assisting in the care of 300 animals who have been orphaned by the bushmeat trade. Volunteers take part in the day to day activities of the sanctuary, including cleaning cages, preparing food and feeding animals, creating enrichment, and doing daily observations.
Depending on the time and current activities, you may also be able to have the opportunity to observe surgeries in our veterinary clinic, assist in an education lesson in local schools or work on your own project depending of your skills (for the long term position).

Currently Limbe Wildlife Centre cares for Western Lowland Gorillas, Central and Nigeria-Cameroon Chimpanzees, drills, mandrills, baboons several species of guenons and mangabeys, as well as various non-primates.

We are always looking for dedicated, hard-working volunteers to improve the lives of the animals under our care!

For all positions we do request a copy of your CV, as well as two recommendation letters.

For the short term volunteer (1 week to 3 months) no experience is needed.No interview is needed

For the long term volunteer (at least 6 month), experience with wildlife is recommended; A minimum of bachelor degree; There is an interview before the final decision.

For short term volunteers: A donation of 250 euro/week for the project, lodging, house security, for lunch and cleaning is requested. All of the funds raised in this program go directly towards the animals under our care and to pay for volunteer costs (housing, etc.).

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
Volunteers are provided with accommodation in our volunteer house, which has a basic room as well as shared bathrooms and a kitchen. Lunch is provided on working days.
We welcome volunteers for a minimum stay of 1 week up to 3 months duration. Other arrangements may be made my request.
