Coordinator of conservation activities
Wild Chimpanzee Foundation
The Wild Chimpanzee Foundation (WCF), is an international NGO established in several countries such as Côte d'Ivoire , Guinea and Liberia. WCF has been in operation since 2000 for the conservation of chimpanzees and other biodiversity in the Tai National Park (NTP) and classified forests of western Côte d'Ivoire ( Cavally and Goin - Débé) in Côte d'Ivoire. The WCF opened its first office in Liberia in 2013 and is hoping to emulate the achievements and programs of operations in Côte d'Ivoire. WCF conducts conservation, environmental education , micro- projects, ecotourism and research within and around the Tai-Sapo-Grebo Forest Complex.
We are seeking a volunteer coordinator for WCF activities in southeastern Liberia. The coordinator will be required to ensure compliance with all ethical and operational procedures, monitor activity indicators and assist with internal and external coordination to ensure quality programs in accordance with the strategy of the Foundation.
More particularly, the volunteer is responsible for:
- Supervising and coordinating the field activities of the WCF in south east Liberia, (Grebo National Forest and the surrounding areas). The volunteer will also help to coordinate temporary field missions of the various programs of the WCF that are in progress.
- Ensure compliance with HR, financial procedures, donors and logistics, and ensure compliance with HR procedures and donor procedures, as well as accounting and financial reports
- Supervise and manage the local team: the volunteer oversees and coordinates the field team, ensures their understanding of issues related to the mission of Conservation and facilitates their work
-Train up local employees of the WCF in computer use, data collection, data analysis and report writing
This work presents an ideal opportunity for a person who holds a master's degree in conservation or sustainable development.
Experience working with communities and in Africa is desirable but not mandatory. The candidate will be retained should they be able to work independently in simple and rustic conditions in Liberia. They must be very organized, disciplined and able to work under pressure.
The position is based on the principle of volunteering. WCF will cover the costs of travel and accommodation in Liberia. A monthly fee will be provided to cover other living costs ($500). The price of the flight ticket will be refunded if the contract period is respected.
