Position Description:
The Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC) located at Texas Biomedical Research Institute, in San Antonio, Texas, invites applications for the Assistant Director of Veterinary Resources and Research Support position. Individual will be responsible for the daily supervision of the veterinary professional and technical staff, and will assist the Associate Director in management of all Veterinary Resources and Research Support. The candidate will also be a key person in assessing and developing SNPRC processes, daily scheduling of research support, and will interact with intramural and extramural investigators. Individual will report directly to the Associate Director, Veterinary Resources & Research Support, Southwest National Primate Research Center.

Qualifications/Experience:
Qualified applicants must have a DVM/VMD from AVMA accredited College of Veterinary Medicine. License to practice veterinary medicine in one of the 50 United States. USDA Accreditation certification. Minimum of 15 years experience in laboratory animal medicine/management of nonhuman primates in biomedical research environment. Demonstrated skills in managing large professional and technical staff and ability to interact with professional staff from other departments/institutions. Strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of laboratory animal regulatory affairs (USDA, AAALAC, etc). Preferred: Nonhuman primate breeding colony management experience, and formal training in management of personnel; board certification in field of veterinary medicine; experience working at a National Primate Research Center; serving on organizational boards (IACUC, etc); public speaking; technical writing.
