Volunteer Field Assistant Position

Field assistant needed for MSc project investigating how troops of long-tailed macaques differ in their use of anthropogenic and natural food resources, and the repercussions this might have on their behaviour and physiology. The project is based in the Thai Monkey Forest in Don Chao Poo, Thailand. Research will be conducted on habituated wild macaques and work will include area surveys,
collection and analysis of behavioural, foraging and ranging data as well as food
availability on the research site. The person needs to be able to work independently and responsibly. The assistant cannot conduct an independent research project, but this could be a great opportunity to gain some key skills on field research and build on your abilities and experience. •Have a background and strong interest in conservation biology, zoology, ecology, primatology or related fields. Previous field experience (not necessarily with primates) is preferred.
•Have good knowledge of ecological (e.g. transect method) and behavioural (e.g. scan sampling technique) data collection methods.
•Be prepared for long days in the field in a challenging environment.
•Be open-minded and independent, prepared to adapt to living in a foreign culture, and able to
work as part of a team.
•Good knowledge of English is an essential requirement for this position.
This is a volunteer position with no salary.

International travel, insurance, and visa/permit fees (tourist visa) are the responsibility of the assistant.
Accommodation is provided (check website for more information) and will 5200 Thai Bhat per month (~£100).
Suitable for students or researchers available from late April – July.
