Position available: Long term primate carer

You will be responsible for all aspects of primate care as outlined below.

• • Food preparation and feeding

• Distributing supplements, primate pellets and conducting “checks” on the primates

• Cleaning and maintaining the enclosures

• Enrichment

• Observations and monitoring

• Recording behaviours and concerns in the daily observation book

• Rescues (collections etc)

• Introductions of arriving primates

• Hand rearing, when necessary

• Transporting primates to the vet, when necessary

• Attend daily morning meetings when on duty.

• Prepare for volunteer arrivals (arrange for the bed to be made, plus welcome package)

• Show around (on arrival of a new volunteer, to introduce him/her to the primates, explain procedures etc)

• Supervising short term volunteers and day volunteers including holding weekly meetings with the volunteers on a rota basis.

• All long term volunteers are required to do morning feeds and evening wash up on a rota basis.

No qualifications are required but the suitable candidate will be hard-working, motivated, driven and will have an interest in primates or animal care. A minimum age of 23 is desirable, but we can be flexible based on previous experience.

Voluntary with food and accomodation included

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
800 rand per month food allowance with the successful completion of a months trial and accommodation included. Airport transfers also included.

Term of Appointment:
1 year with 1 month probabtionary period and 5 weeks holiday
