Macaque Cognition Research Assistant
Macaque Study Centre - University of Portsmouth
The Macaque Study Centre is a new facility for cognitive and behavioural research with crested macaques (Macaca nigra) at Marwell Wildlife (Winchester, UK), run by Dr. Bridget Waller (University of Portsmouth, UK). The macaques are trained to participate in cognitive tasks (while housed in their social group at the zoological park) and are currently training on touchscreens. We are running a series of experiments investigating their understanding of social signals, such as facial expressions (see link for a video of the facility):
We welcome applications from volunteers who would like to gain experience of training and testing primates for cognitive research. You will need to undergo a training and induction process (approx 4 weeks) before working with the macaques, so we ask for a minimum of 3 months commitment.
Please contact us with any questions, or for more information. Send a CV and a letter detailing your interest in the post to Bridget Waller (contact details below).
