Position Description:
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES___________________________________________
Under general supervision performs routine sanitation of animal cages. Responsible for the care and maintenance check of animal cages. Participates in setting up animal rooms, capturing animals, inventory stocking and general facility cleaning.
ESSENTIAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Other duties may be assigned
1. Maintains Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
2. Reads and understands SNBL SOP’s.
3. Performs daily cleaning and disinfection of animal cages and documentation.
4. Assists with removal of dirty and clean cages to and from designated areas.
5. Maintains general organization and cleanliness of work area and assigned support spaces.
6. Assists with the receipt and preparation of animals for quarantine and domestic isolation.
7. Transfers animals from soiled to clean enclosures.
8. Maintains records related to cage sanitation and cage marking.
9. Assists with disinfection and decontamination of the quarantine rooms at the conclusion of each quarantine period.
10. Ability to understand the proper use and handling of chemicals.
11. Ability to manually restrain animals from single house caging.
12. Ability to net capture animals in an indoor/outdoor housing environment.
13. Facilities maintenance duties as assigned,
14. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information one on one.
MATH SKILLS
Working knowledge of basic math skills.
OTHER SKILLS
Reading, writing and oral communication skills. Ability to solve problems and deal with a limited number of concrete situations. Ability to interpret limited instructions furnished in written and oral from. Basic computer skills.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written and oral instructions.
TRAINING
Training needs for this position may include basic animal husbandry.

6. Climbing/Balancing – Occasional use of a step platform to reach animal housing at high levels.
7. Stooping/Bending – Frequent stooping/bending to reach animal housing at lower levels and to clean vertical/horizontal surfaces.
8. Crouching – Occasional crouching to reach animal housing at lower levels and to clean vertical/horizontal surfaces.
9. Reaching – Occasional repetitive reaching above shoulder height, at shoulder height and below shoulder height to reach animal housing at various levels and to shower.
10. Handling – Constant handling of animal housing, food, water bottles, bedding material and clothing.
11. Fingering – Occasional fingering to use a computer keyboard, operate food scale and transfer animals.
12. Talking – Occasional talking to communicate to co-workers.
13. Tasting/Smelling – Constant checking for detection of unusual odors in facility.
14. Near Visual Acuity – Frequent near visual acuity to read animal identification tags.
15. Hearing – Occasional hearing to communicate with co-workers.
16. Depth Perception – Frequent to transfer animals.
Health & Safety Requirements
Medical evaluations by the SNBL USA, Ltd. Occupational Health Medical Facility may include but is not limited to immunity status and/or current immunizations for Tetanus/diphtheria, Measles, Rubella, Varicella and Q-fever. A baseline serum draw and negative Tuberculin test or if Tb positive a chest x-ray demonstrating that there is no active Tb.
Every six months employees in this job classification are required to be Tb tested.
Those employees in this job classification who are assigned to the Quarantine Facility must pass a medical clearance to wear a respirator. Training and fit testing will be provided but employee is expected to follow and adhere to all company policy and procedures for wearing of PPE.
