Position Description:
The Wisconsin National Primate Research Center has received a two-year American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant to develop an improved Electronic Health Records (EHR) system. This system will facilitate translational research, improve collaboration among the National Primate Research Centers, and increase the efficiency and comprehensiveness of Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC) data collection. The system is being developed in collaboration with LabKey Software.
This position will be actively involved in the research of this project. The applicant must be able to collaborate with faculty, researchers, and administrative staff of the WNPRC to identify workflows and information that will be captured in the EHR system. The EHR will be designed to store all clinical and laboratory data gathered from the WNPRC. This system will
provide long-lasting benefits to the Primate Center including increased efficiency, cost-savings and improved quality of animal care. The applicant will be responsible for improving the WNPRC EHR by developing customized views and visualizations of data (using R and Javascript principally) in response to specific research computing needs from WNPRC
staff. The applicant will also be responsible for training WNPRC staff on the use of the EHR system once it is implemented and assisting with the production of system documentation.
The applicant will also be the primary liaison between the WNPRC and LabKey Software. The applicant will be actively involved and responsible for assuring all milestones of the research project requirements and timelines with LabKey Software are being met in accordance with the sub award agreement and statement of work.
1. 50%: Act as liaison between Primate Center researchers, Information Technology and Support Services, and LabKey Software in the research, development, and implementation of the EHR data management system.
2. 25%: Manage the newly created Research Computing Unit of Research Services and develop informatics solutions to support Research Services and the Division of Research.
3. 25%: Responsible for custom programming both to integrate with this system and meet the immediate short-term needs of researchers.
Qualifications/Experience:
Degree and area of specialization:
Bachelor's degree required, in information systems management, computer sciences, or related field with a strong background in biological science is preferred. A bachelor's degree in a biological science with relevant work experience in information systems management and computer programming would also be considered.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
The applicant must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and be capable of communicating effectively with biologists, veterinarians, computer programmers, and support staff. The applicant must have experience working with SQL relational databases, experience with PostgreSQL and mySQL are particularly desirable. Programming experience in at least 2
of the following languages is required Javascript, R, Perl, C/C++, Java, Python. Experience managing biological and/or clinical data and working with electronic health records systems is desirable.
