Position Description:
Join us on the edge of discovery as a Clinical Veterinarian. The National Institutes of Health (NIH), the world’s largest medical research facility, has a challenging position available in the Division of Veterinary Resources (DVR), Veterinary Medicine Branch (VMB).

Working as a Clinical Veterinarian for the NIH requires expertise in laboratory animal medicine and a working knowledge of regulatory requirements for the care and use of animals in research. You will be responsible for provision of clinical care, direction of professional and technical staff, protocol review, and oversight of contract services. The ability to work with a wide spectrum of individuals in a team setting is essential. You will have clinical veterinarian responsibilities in multiple facilities, housing multiple species. Practical experience with primate medicine is helpful.

Qualifications/Experience:
Qualifications for the Facility Veterinarian include a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, i.e., Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD), obtained at a school or college of veterinary medicine accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Council on Education. Candidates must have successfully completed National Veterinary Board certification, be licensed to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state, and have at least five years of progressively responsible professional veterinary experience, including supervisory experience. Graduates of veterinary schools not AVMA accredited must have Education Commission for Foreign Veterinary Graduates certification. Board eligibility or certification by the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine is preferred.

Salary/funding:
Salary ranges from $78,956-120,695 dependent on qualifications and experience. A full package of Civil Service benefits is available including retirement, health and life insurance, long -term care insurance, leave, and savings plan (401(k) equivalent).

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
The position is based in Bethesda, Maryland and relocation expenses as provided by the government are covered.

Term of Appointment:
Appointments for this position are made as Staff Scientist and are open to all sources.
