Position Description:
Our internship program is open to people who are seriously interested in pursuing careers in animal care, conservation, education, or advocacy. Interns will be immersed in daily activities on nonprofit sanctuary life.
Intern Position Description:
Interns will be responsible for cleaning animal enclosures, creating enrichment, preparing diets, washing dishes and laundry, fundraising activities, gardening, and otherwise maintaining the facility. In addition to daily husbandry, there will be daily educational sessions in which interns will learn more about varying topics pertaining to both captive and wild chimpanzees. Interns will also be expected to complete an independent project that they will present to the Chimps Inc. team. Interns will not have any physical contact with the chimps.
Educational Background:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Primate experience is not required.
Qualifications/Experience:
Interns should be dedicated, work well both with others and individually, be a self-starter, have a good work ethic, good communication skills, and a positive attitude. Because this program is labor intensive, applicants should also be in good physical condition. College level coursework in primatology, animal behavior, psychology and/or anthropology are beneficial but not necessary. Documentation of current TB test, tetanus shot, Hepatitis B series, and health insurance coverage are required.

Interns are asked to stay for a minimum of 4 weeks, but may be considered for a position up to 6 monthsChimps Inc. will provide interns with room and board. There is $85 per week cost to the intern which covers materials, curriculum, training, and lodging.
