Position Description:
The National Institute of Mental Health, a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), offers a two- to five-year postdoctoral fellowship at one of the premier research sites in the U.S. -- the 300 acre Bethesda campus of the NIH, near Washington D.C. The strong scientific environment and outstanding equipment resources at NIH make this a unique opportunity for an outstanding scientist.
Possible research areas include 1) effects of ssri treatment on differentially reared or temperamentally inhibited adolescent monkeys 2) development of neuroimaging methods (VBM, DTI, fMRI, PET) to assess emotional development in nonhuman primates 3) development of eyetracking procedures to probe cognition-affect interaction across development in different populations of monkeys.
Qualifications/Experience:
The position is open to 1) recent Ph.D.s in psychology, cognitive neuroscience, neuroscience, biology, neuropharmacology, or other applicable discipline, or 2) M.D.s with training in psychiatry, neurology, nuclear medicine, radiology, or other relevant field. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team using pharmacology, neuroimaging, behavioral and physiological assay to study genetic and environmental determinants of emotional development in nonhuman primates.
Experience with primate research, eyetracking methods, or familiarity with computational and statistical methods for neuroimaging confers an advantage but is not absolutely required.
