Position Description:
Laboratory technician needed to work on a project investigating mechanisms of hearing in macaques. Duties include, but are not limited to: daily handling of macaques, environmental enrichment, training animals for various behavioral tasks, behavioral and physiological measurements with investigator, timely data entry, maintenance of neat and orderly records, ordering supplies, and other duties necessary for functioning of the laboratory. Must be able to lift and/or roll transfer carts (up to 40 kg). The individual must demonstrate a willingness to multitask and learn more advanced technical skills as required. The suitable candidate should be able to participate in the day-to-day operations of studies. The candidate must participate in required preventative medical and medical monitoring programs which may include blood tests, immunizations, TB screening, Blood borne and Airborne Pathogen training, etc., and are provided to meet Federal, State and University requirements. Employee will be appropriately trained to work with animals that may behave unpredictably. Job begins the third week of June, 2009.

Qualifications/Experience:
The ideal applicant will have previous experience working with nonhuman primates, and an interest in research. The position requires excellent communication skills, and large amounts of patience. Must be willing to work some weekends and holidays, and overtime as required, as well as participate in training and occupational health and safety programs. Employees must be able to effectively follow complex oral and written instructions. The ideal applicant will demonstrate the ability to follow standard operating procedures, and to interact with other personnel in a professional and courteous manner. Bachelor's or Associates degree with comparable work experience required. Enthusiasm for working closely with monkeys is necessary. Direct experience with live animals, especially primates, preferred.

Salary/funding:
Salary is competitive, and commensurate with experience, and includes benefits. Position guaranteed for at least 18 months.
