Position Description:
Recognizing the need for joining research with conservation, Chimfunshi is continually collecting data on our chimpanzees in order to monitor them and improve their captive lifestyle, and increase their chances of successful rehabilitation and possible reintroduction. We also aim to improve our understanding of chimpanzees as well as our education programs through research.


Research projects range from behavioral data collection on the chimpanzees to social surveys of the human aspect of Chimfunshi, to flora and fauna surveys of the surrounding area. Research projects are ongoing and changing and volunteers will be assigned to the existing and new projects we feel best fit their skills and interests.

Chimfunshi is accepting applications for individuals wishing to contribute to data collection. While we encourage those with research experience to apply, we welcome individuals who have little to no experience as well. We have many research needs and can tailor the research experience to fit those of all research levels.

Besides working on their assigned tasks, research volunteers will also be expected to:
-Attend the Seminars of visiting researchers
-Write a short bio for the Volunteer web site
-Write a blog of their experience for the research blog, The Ape’s Tale (http://theapestale.blogspot.com/)
-Write a submission for the Chimfunshi Newsletter

Qualifications/Experience:
In general, applicants should
-be in good physical and mental condition
-feel comfortable being far away from family and friends
-be emotionally mature, energetic, and very patient
-have excellent attention to detail
-not be afraid of bugs and snakes
-have very good social skills
-be able to maintain a positive attitude towards hard and tiring work

Salary/funding:
This is a volunteer position. Scholarships exist for primate habitat-country and Zambian citizens
