Position Description:
The Chimfunshi Education Center is the base for all Educational and Research activities at the Sanctuary. The Education Center runs several education programs at the Sanctuary, and we are continually working to revamp and keep these programs both current and relevant for all age and education levels, as well as nationalities. Education programs are run both on-site for visiting schools as well as outreach programs for schools in the area. We are also currently overhauling the visitor education program in order to maximize the educational benefit of visits to the sanctuary.
Educational programs focus on increasing awareness of chimpanzees, the environment, conservation issues, and the native flora and fauna of Zambia.
Volunteers will be assigned to the existing and new projects we feel best fit their skills and interests, however there is the opportunity for the design and implementation of personal projects once approved.
We are accepting applications for individuals wishing to contribute to the goals of the Education center.
Besides working on their assigned tasks, volunteers will also be expected to:
-Attend the Seminars of visiting researchers
-Write a short bio for the Volunteer web site
-Write a blog of their experience for the education blog, Touching the Moon (http://touchingthemoon.blogspot.com/)
-Write a submission for the Chimfunshi Newsletter
Qualifications/Experience:
In general, applicants should
-be in good physical and mental condition
-feel comfortable being far away from family and friends
-be emotionally mature, energetic, and very patient
-have excellent attention to detail
-not be afraid of bugs and snakes
-have very good social skills
-be able to maintain a positive attitude towards hard and tiring work
Salary/funding:
This is a volunteer position. Scholarships exist for primate habitat-country and Zambian citizens
