Position Description:
Position Summary:
The Junior Specialist will assist the PI in daily operation of a research laboratory at the California National Primate Research Center (CNPRC), in Davis, CA. Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
*Collecting basic behavioral data
*Entering and maintaining data in Excel spreadsheets
*Basic animal handling
*Moving animals in transport boxes
*Transferring animals to group socialization
*Hosing and sanitizing cages
Special Conditions of Employment:
A Bachelor’s Degree is required.
Physical Demands:
*Lift and/or move animal transfer cages weighing up to 40 pounds.
*Handle tasks that require squatting, bending, stooping or standing.
Work Environment:
*This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity check.
*Work in BioSafety Level (BSL) 1, 2, or 3 facilities where nonhuman primates may be either naturally or experimentally infected with potentially hazardous diseases such as HIV, SIV or Herpes B virus.
*Work with biohazardous material.
*Measles vaccination or proof of illness required. This position is subject to Medical Surveillance procedures and review in accordance with Federal and State Laws and Regulations and University Policy.
*Participate in required preventative medical and medical monitoring programs which may include blood tests, immunizations, TB screening, Blood borne and Airborne Pathogen training, etc., and are provided to meet Federal, State and University requirements.
*Employee is personally responsible for following health and safety guidelines/instructions.
*Employee will be appropriately trained to work in close proximity with animals that may behave unpredictably.
Qualifications/Experience:
Minimum Qualifications:
*A Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Anthropology, Biology, Animal Science or other related field of study preferred.
*Computer experience and skills to use spreadsheets and word processing software.
*Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
*Ability to understand safety procedures and guidelines.
Salary/funding:
$33,672.00 per year
