PhD in Evolutionary Anthropology/Psychology
Date Posted:
2008-10-11
Position Description:
Seeking a PhD working on the behaviour of primates, captive or wild, preferably with some link to human evolution, to start Sept/Oct 2009.
Educational Background:
University of Edinburgh - Bsc Hons Zoology - 2001-2005
Durham University - MSc by Research Evolutionary Anthropology - 2008-2009
Qualifications/Experience:
Kenya (2005-2006) - 14 months running Uaso Ngiro Baboon Project (under Dr S. Strum), where I also conducted my own research into grunts and grooming, inspired by the transitional stage inferred by Dunbar's grooming/gossip hypothesis. I am now writing this up as my MSc at Durham.
Ethiopia (2005) - co-organised highly successful University of Edinburgh Lone Wolf Project, a multi-disciplinary expedition examing the conservation status of the Ethiopian wolf. I also filmed the expedition and am producing a short amateur documentary. I was fortunate enough to spend some time observing Geladas.
Indonesian Borneo (2004) - field assistant at the Orang-utan Tropical Peatland Project (OuTrop), mainly worked on gibbon censusing
South Africa (2003) - worked as a voluntary keeper at C.A.R.E., a chacma baboon sanctuary. Spent some time locating, observing and censusing a previously released troop
