Position Description:
Summary - The primary purposes of the Operations Manager are to develop, implement and supervise operational policies, the overall operations, activities, and personnel engaged in the operation of animal care facilities at the Duke University Lemur Center. This position reports directly to the Center Director.

Brief Description: Maintain and develop existing facilities to assure optimum animal care standards Manage, supervise and motivate animal care staff. Create positive culture of teamwork and optimism among animal care and related staff Work with Duke regulatory committees (e.g., IACUC) to assure compliance with AAALAC and USDA standards Work with Director to oversee and manage operating budget Oversee construction of new facilities Work with Director in managing personnel hiring, training, and development Assure that consumable supplies are consistently adequate Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein. The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this classification. Qualifications/Experience:
Education Requirements:
- Job duties require extensive knowledge of captive animal care and management principles generally acquired through a Master's degree in a field of wildlife biology/management or related field.

Experience Requirements:
- Work generally requires 4 years of animal care experience as well as experience with USDA, AAALAC, AZA or similar accreditation procedures.

Job Skill Requirements:
- demonstrated excellence in staff management
- familiarity with budgetary planning and oversight
- strong organizational skills
