Position Description:
The Animal Resources Program is seeking a veterinarian to provide clinical care for a population of approximately 1200 primates housed at the Wake Forest University Primate Center that are used for the teaching and research programs of the institution. The person filling the position will join a team of veterinary faculty and staff responsible for the provision of a comprehensive animal care program that ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements. The position offers a unique opportunity for a motivated individual interested in the care of primates in a research-intensive setting. The campus also houses approximately 100 head of sheep. Experience and interest in herd health, clinical care and pasture management of small ruminants is a plus. Additional responsibilities will include supervision of animal health technicians, consultation with research faculty and staff on issues pertaining to animal care and use, training of personnel, and participation in IACUC activities.
Qualifications/Experience:
Minimum acceptable qualifications include a degree in veterinary medicine from an AVMA accredited school, state licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the United States, and one year of veterinary practice experience. The applicant should possess excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and a service-oriented attitude. Additional desirable qualifications are training and/or experience in laboratory animal medicine, surgical experience, and supervisory skills.
Salary/funding:
Salary will be commensurate with responsibilities and experience.
