seeks candidates for the following professional position:

Supervisory Veterinarian

The Washington National Primate Research Center (WaNPRC), located in Seattle, WA invites applications for a Supervisory Veterinarian in the Division of Research Resources. The Supervisory Veterinarian heads the Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Unit, and is ultimately responsible for veterinary care of approximately 650 macaques.

The Veterinary Medicine and Surgery Unit employs two additional primate veterinarians, veterinary residents, and a staff of veterinary technicians and technologists. The unit is charged with provision of veterinary medical and surgical care, including support for complex research protocols. The Supervisory Veterinarian is responsible for direction and supervision of the veterinary staff, coordination of veterinary activities with other units, and ensuring availability of veterinary support on a 24-hour, 7-day/week basis. He or she is also responsible for development and oversight of the preventive medicine program for the primate colony.

Other responsibilities include consultation with investigators during protocol development, protocol review for the IACUC, and budget oversight. This position reports to the Associate Director for Research Resources, and is expected to assist her in ensuring compliance with University policies, federal regulations and AAALAC International standards. The Supervisory Veterinary is expected to participate in the training of veterinary residents, students, investigators, and technical staff.

Qualifications/Experience:
Position requirements include DVM or VMD from an AVMA-accredited College of Veterinary Medicine and a license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one US state. ACLAM board certification is preferred. The successful candidate will have at least five years experience in nonhuman primate medicine, including supervisory experience. Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential. The position will remain open until filled. Salary commensurate with experience.
