Position Description:
The Lawrence Jacobsen Library at the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center (WNPRC), University of Wisconsin-Madison, is seeking a knowledgeable, outgoing and creative person to fill the open position of Special Collections Librarian. Jacobsen Library has a long-standing tradition of providing high quality resources and services to WNPRC staff and affiliates, UW students and researchers, and persons worldwide with an interest in primatology. Jacobsen Library staff includes four professional librarians and several student assistants, working in a highly collaborative environment to manage all aspects of library operations. The Special Collections Librarian is responsible for management and development of the library's substantial audio-visual (AV) collection of primate-related videos, films, audio recordings, and images, in both physical and digital formats. Duties include overseeing acquisition and circulation of AV materials and maintaining the library's existing AV collections. The Librarian is also responsible for managing AV-related online content on the Library's Primate Info Net (PIN) website (http://pin.primate.wisc.edu) and working with other Library staff to develop new web-based resources. The Librarian manages the June Northrop Barker Archives, a collection of papers in the field of primatology. The Librarian is responsible for the supervision of one or more student assistants.

Qualifications/Experience:
MLS from ALA-accredited program or equivalent advanced degree required.

Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with audio-visual (AV) materials and equipment, and experience working with AV in a digital format. Demonstrated ability to develop web resources with a strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and web and accessibility standards and protocols. Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and effectively across organizational lines and in collaboration with a variety of individuals and groups. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a small, team-based, environment. Demonstrated ability to exercise individual initiative. Experience working in a special or science library, experience with preservation of AV materials, proficiency with relational database programs and structured query language (SQL), experience with archives management and previous work with nonhuman primates preferred.

A bachelor's or advanced degree in a science-related subject area is preferred.

Salary/funding:
Minimum of $40,125
Salary dependent upon qualifications
