Position Description:
I am looking to gain any type of experience caring for and or working with primates in a lab or zoo setting in the Madison area. Interested in doing things like feeding, enrichment, cage or exhibit cleaning and other related duties required for the care of primates.
Educational Background:
Currently in the process of completing a degree in Biological Anthropology with a focus on Primates.
Coursework in primate behavior, animal development, extinction, biology, and care of animals.
Qualifications/Experience:
5 months of experience interning at a veterinary clinic, where I sat in on surgeries and clinics. Duties included cleaning examination rooms, restraining and relocating animals, filling prescriptions and heavy lifting tasks.
6 months of experience interning at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo small mammal department, in Syracuse, NY where I assisted in the care of ring-tailed and ruffed lemurs, golden lion tamarins, common squirrel monkeys, vervets, mandrills, siamangs, and white-handed gibbons. Also helped care for Brazilian agoutis, lions, North American river otters, Egyptian fruit bats, Hoffmann's two-toed sloths, fennec foxs, naked mole-rats, prevost's squirrels, and white-winged vampire bats. Duties included cleaning and re-arrangement, feeding, preparation and administration of enrichment, medical observations, and administration of medications.
