Position Description:
I have been interested in primatology, particularly orangutans, since the age of 12 (I am now 25). I fell in love with them!!! I am looking for any position with at least some hands on work with orangutans and/or chimpanzees. My main goal from this position would be to gain experience in and knowledge of primate behavior, primate needs (diet, habitat, medical, etc.) and research techniques (field work or lab work). Simply put, any position that enables me to "get my feet wet" and enables me to narrow down my specific areas of interest and related job fields concerning primates.

Educational Background:
I have a B.S. in Biology and graduated with a 3.5 GPA. I am a member of Phi Theta Kapa and The National Dean's List (2005). Related coursework includes General Biology, Animal Behavior, Genetics, Ecology, Microbiology, Cell and Molecular Biology. I assisted in research concerning microsatellite isolation of Rana Cascadae (frog population's in Washington, Oregon, N. California) to look at patterns of nuclear divergence. Computer skills include Lasercyte, Vet-test, Avimark, and Microsoft Components: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Internet Research

Qualifications/Experience:
I have worked as a veterinary technician in a small animal hospital from Jan. 2006 - present. My main duties include, but are not limited to, surgical assistant, animal restraint, blood draws, treatment of hospitalized patients (SQ fluids, IV catheters, PO, etc.) in-house labs, and organization of proto-call labsheets. While I do not have any experience working directly with primates, my job has made me well aware of the demands (physical and mental) working with animals can be. Everything I have done up til now has been to familiarize myself with animals any way I could, hopefully getting me closer to becoming a primatologist. I am an exceptionally fast learner, and pride myself on how observant, articulate, and organized I am.
