Position Description:
Position Location: Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research, San Antonio, Texas.
We currently seeking a motivated individual to join a growing basic scientific group in cutting-edge nonhuman primate research. Primary responsibilities and duties would include: aseptic surgery techniques including laparoscopic for oocyte recovery and embryo transfer, strong suturing skills, and clinical medicine procedures; nonhuman primate animal anesthesia, blood sampling, and basic ultrasonography. This position requires extensive coordination and implementation of nonhuman primate research activities, including some animal handling and health monitoring for off-site MRI animal imaging procedures. Good record keeping including data entry is a must. The successful candidate will interact daily with University PhD investigators and be an integral part of an exciting research team in the field of regenerative and developmental stem cell medicine.
Qualifications/Experience:
The successful candidate would have a veterinary technologist degree or a Bachelors degree in the biological sciences, plus 3-5 years of laboratory animal work in a research facility. Excellent communication skills, proficiency with basic computer operations, great organizational skills, and the ability to work independently are required. Must possess or obtain the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science within one year from date of hire and the Laboratory Animal Technician (ALT) certification within three years from date of hire.
