Position Description:
This is a seasonal internship position (typically, summer, but may begin as early as May and may be extended to fall). The position requires 10-20 hours of work per week, with at least one weekend day required. The intern will assist with animal tracking, working with volunteers, public outreach, and the writing of a bi-weekly GLT newsletter. Opportunities exist to perform research projects for school credit, and possibilities of participating in ongoing research. This is an unpaid internship that offers an extraordinary experience in animal behavior, volunteer management, and journalism. Closing date for applications is April 30, 2008.
Qualifications/Experience:
Candidates must submit a letter of interest along with their resume and three references (2 school, 1 work). You must have completed at least two years of college in a related field such as biology, zoology, psychology, etc.
GLT Intern Guidelines:
•Safety and security of the animals, staff, volunteers, and public are paramount.
•Interns do not feed anything to, or touch animals.
•All interns must provide proof of a current negative TB test (within the past year).
•An intern should follow all health and safety requirements as directed by Zoo Atlanta.
•Interns must wear a proper tamarin tracker uniform in order to be easily identified.
•Be professional; be courteous—to visitors, volunteers and staff.
Salary/funding:
This is an unpaid internship, but you may be able to receive school credit.
