Assistant Office Coordinator

Position Description:
The Sumatran Orangutan Society's projects in Sumatra are run through the Orangutan Information Centre (OIC). The SOS-OIC is an innovative programme which promotes environmental education and orangutan protection through the participation and empowerment of local communities. It also supports sustainable environmental development of the region. This is primarily achieved by raising awareness about orangutans and their environmental significance and by establishing community-based projects and educational training programmes.
The SOS has a vacancy for an Assistant Coordinator based at the SOS-OIC office in Medan, North Sumatra, Indonesia.
· Working in conjunction with the SOS-OIC coordinator to supervise the daily running of the projects and office.
· Consult and assist in the management of SOS-OIC projects.
· Prepare and write monthly and quarterly reports for international donors on project activities.
· Assist in the preparation of project and grant proposals for fundraising.
· Liaise with other offices of the SOS network.
· Undertake other work as required and instructed by the SOS.

Qualifications/Experience:
Qualifications and Skills expected:
1. High-quality networking skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of organizations and communities.
2. Knowledge of orangutan ecology and (orangutan) conservation related issues.
3. Experience in working with an environmental/educational/conservation NGO, ideally in Southeast Asia.
4. Strong inter-personal skills and ability to work in diverse cultural contexts and time zones.
5. Proven ability to work both independently and in close coordination with a team.
6. The ability to oversee a project but not be directly in front line (i.e. allow the Indonesian members to be the main front line spokespeople for the SOS-OIC).
7. Excellent spoken and written English (preferably as the first language) and the ability to communicate effectively in Bahasa Indonesia (the understanding of written Bahasa Indonesia would be an advantage).
8. Bachelor of Science degree is imperative and a Master of Science preferred (or equivalent experience working on environmental/conservational issues).

Salary/funding:
This is a voluntary post.

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
The successful candidate will be responsible for covering their own travel and living costs.

Term of Appointment:
4 month minimum commitment, preferrably 6 months +
