Position Description:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
RESEARCH RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Manages, coordinates, and facilitates research and breeding projects at the Yemassee Primate Center.
2.Responsible for accurate animal and research records including, but not limited to, animal movement records, in/out logs, treatment and clinical care reports, and research data sets.
3.Provides strategic, expert advice and consultation on the design and implementation of effective animal care and research processes to include monthly reports, analyses, and oversight.
4.Participates on and/or facilitates various animal care management and research tasks and participate in planning and procedural development decisions.
5.Participates in the establishment, organization, and implementation of short- and long-range goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness and effects changes required for improvement.
6.Develops integrated project plans, implementation schedules, and cost estimates for major, long-term projects; prepares and manages annual budgets and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses.
7.Communicates regularly with executive management and administration regarding the status of current project initiatives; obtains executive guidance and approval as required to advance initiatives.
8.Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
LAB RESPONSIBILITIES
•Operate and maintain all lab equipment which includes: Steriguard hood; centrifuge machine; Hemavet chemistry control; Heska Spotchem; Isotemp Sterilizer; laboratory scale
•Coordinate and schedule research protocol with Processing and Veterinary staff
•Complete research data collection and testing procedures
•Assist in research and data collection and testing procedures
•Ensure laboratory equipment and inventory levels for laboratory supplies are maintained
•Perform laboratory testing which includes hematology, clinical chemistries, bacteriological and parasitological testing according to established protocol
•Perform manual and automated blood testing and microscopic examination and identification of parasites.
•Operate dry-ice maker and ensure proper inventory levels of Co2 cylinders
•Prepare biological materials, including serum, plasma, and tissue samples for shipping
•Maintain log book of employee exposures
•Perform animal swabs involving employee exposures which include, eye, mouth, and vaginal swabs
•Assist veterinary staff as needed in clinical treatments of NHP’s
•Assist processing team as needed with daily observations and treatments
•Follow Company Standard Operating Procedures
•Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed
•Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Experience:
Bachelor's degree; at least 5 years of experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
