Position Description:
The University of Wisconsin-Madison National Primate Research Center is currently recruiting a Lab Tech Support Supervisor in the Animal Services Unit reporting to the Colony Manager. This responsible supervisory position schedules, coordinates, directs, and/or assigns facility husbandry workload to Research Animal Technicians, manages staff, evaluates performance, advises and counsels, takes corrective action up to and including discipline. Develops unit processes including minimum staffing levels, etc. Responsible for animal facility operations/maintenance, providing laboratory animal husbandry support services, insuring that various reports and logs are maintained; managing allocation/use of animal facility space. Coordinates with investigators and veterinary staff specific needs in relation to animal husbandry. Cross trains with and fills in for other facility supervisors as required.

Qualifications/Experience:
The successful candidate will have knowledge of principles and practices of employee supervision and program administration; federal requirements for care of research animals and acceptable animal husbandry procedures; experience with the operation and maintenance of an animal research lab, investigative techniques and equipment used. Knowledge of OSHA, USDA, Animal Welfare Act, and Guide for Care and Use of Laboratory Animals required. Familiarity with computerized data gathering and report generation required. Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds and allergies to animals must be controlled by medication.
