Position Description:
The Taï Chimpanzee Project works with the chimpanzees of the Taï National Park, Côte d'Ivoire, for over 28 years and is at present following chimpanzees from 4 habituated different communities. Three different camps are used by the students and the field assistants working there. Reasonably comfortable housing is provided at the field site(small house in forest camps, solar power for lights, laptop, and battery charging, but no major appliances, limited running rain water)
The project is searching a field camp manager to fulfill the following duties in the best remaining forest of this beautiful national park.
Duties:
- general management of 3 forest camps
- maintenance of camps, vehicles, technical equipment
- project logistics
- Accounting and reporting to Director of MPI
- Training, supervision and management of 17 staff members
- Liaise with government officials and collaborating conservation NGO (WCF)
- Creation and update of animal records
Qualifications/Experience:
Desired qualifications:
- background in biology
- prior experience of working or managing a project in Africa
- first aid certificate
- good sense of humor
Requirements:
- good physical condition
- ability to live in remote and isolated place under hard physical and psychological conditions
- communication skills
- command of French language written and spoken
- applicants must be over 27 years of age
- mature demeanor
- technical skills
- knowledge of vehicular maintenance as well as solar system and generators
- valid, international drivers license
Salary/funding:
Compensation:
- the opportunity to work in the unique Tai National Park with wild chimpanzees
- Recompensation for living costs 300 euro per month
- Air Faire refunded after 12 months
