Instructor, primate ecology field course

Position Description:
ITEC faculty are expected to develop and carry out a college-level field course in primate ecology at our field station in Bocas del Toro, Panama. The course is limited to 15 students and are approximately four weeks in length. Teaching assistants are provided with sufficient enrollment. The course will be designed around the ITEC model. The first 10 days of the course are spent familiarizing students with the study area, learning field techniques in behavioral ecology as related to primates, carry out various group projects that may include, tree phenologies, forest structure, diversity, behavioral sampling techniques, etc. During the latter part of this period, students provide written proposals for their independent research projects which the instructors evaluate. After returning from a 3-day trip to cloudforest, students begin their independent research under the supervision of the instructor and TAs. The independent research period extends for 10-12 days. On completion, the instructor will help students with their analysis of data and the writing of their independent research. Grades (letter and percent points earned) for all students will be provided by the instructor to ITEC.

Qualifications/Experience:
Ph.D or Ph.D. Candidate
Field experience in the study of primates
Previous teaching experience
Previous experience teaching field courses (preferred)

Salary/funding:
Salary is based on a sliding scale dependent on enrollment.
Minimum (5 students): $1200.00
+ $150.00 per each additional student

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals, lodging):
All travel, meals and lodging related to the travel to and from the field station, while at the station, and all travel and lodging during the cloudforest trip.
