Creating or Revising Entries

Programs or organizations with a primary focus on primate research, conservation, education or veterinary care are welcome to create a new entry, or submit a revision of an existing entry, to the International Directory of Primatology.

When submitting forms, remember that the following fields must be provided:

  • Organization name
  • Street address

Creating A New Entry

To submit a new entry, choose from the categories below that which best describes your organization. You will be provided with a form which you can fill in and submit electronically to the WPRC.

Revising An Entry

To revise an entry, select the "Update Entry" link located at the bottom of your profile. You will be asked for your password. If you do not remember your password, an "Obtain Password" pick is located at the bottom of the editing form.

Your full entry will appear, placing the various pieces of information in the correct organization form for your institution. You can add, delete, or edit information. When all charges are complete, select the "Submit" box at the bottom of the page.

Organizational Categories

Animal Welfare Agencies -- Agencies with programs or services related to primates such as the Animal Welfare Information Center (USA) or Universities Federation for Animal Welfare (U.K.) will be included.

Conservation Agencies -- Programs with a substantive focus on primatology will be included.

Educational Programs -- Programs which offer educational or training programs, such as those offered by a university or college department will be included. Programs will usually include several faculty and offer a variety of primatological courses.

Field Sites -- Programs studying primate behavior, ecology or conservation in the field:

Foundations -- Since many foundation directories already exist, the focus here is on foundations which support research, educational and/or conservation programs for primatologists. Foundation may be species specific, such as the Gorilla Foundation, or broader in scope, but they must offer significant support for primate related projects.

Government Agencies -- Regulatory bodies which oversee the management of primate research/conservation in a country such as the NIH Primate Centers Program (USA).

Information Agencies -- Agencies which provide information to the broad primatological community.

Museums -- Includes programs which have major paleontological collections of primate specimens, support field projects with primates and/or sponsor major scientific meetings such as Understanding Chimpanzees, Chicago Academy of Sciences (USA).

Primate Centers -- All primate centers will be included.

Primate Laboratories -- All primate laboratories will be included.

Sanctuaries -- Programs involved in supporting "unwanted" primates or involved primarily in rehabilitation or reintroduction of primate species. Broad based sanctuaries (many species) will not be included.

Societies/Federations/Groups -- International or national level primate-related professional societies, federations and groups will be included. Does not include broader societies such as the Animal Behavior Society (USA).

Zoological Gardens -- Since excellent directories to zoos already exist, the focus is on zoos which have a large collection of primates, rare species, offer research opportunities involving primates or sponsor important international or national primate meetings. Collaborative work between zoos and universities is an important consideration. For the most part, zoos will be listed in the Population Management section.
