Mission: The mission of AWI is to reduce the sum total of pain and fear inflicted on animals by people. We seek refinement in housing and handling conditions for captive animals, especially nonhuman primates used in research, in accordance with word and spirit of the federal Animal Welfare Act, the US Government Principles for the Utilization and Care of Vertebrate Animals Used in Testing, Research and Training, and the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. We also support replacement and reduction in use of animals. Principal Research Programs: Provide free or at-cost publications and offers consultation services regarding primate care and well-being.
