Universities Federation for Animal Welfare (UFAW) (Established 1937)

Mission: To improve the welfare of animals by funding and publishing research into their behavior and needs, and giving expert advice on how particular species should be cared for and managed. Principal Research Programs: Educational, advisory, publishing, scientific meetings, grants for projects, research and welfare. Number of Staff: 9 Publications: UFAW publishes the international scientific quarterly journal "Animal Welfare", holds symposia and workshops and publishes technical information on all aspects of animal welfare. The "UFAW Handbook on the Care and Management of Laboratory Animals" is the standard work on the subject and the 8th edition will shortly be published.
