Humane Society of the United StatesAnimal Welfare AgencyWashington, District of Columbia, USA Humane Society of the United States (Established 1954) 2100 L Street, NW , Washington , District of Columbia 20037 USA Mission: The mission of The Humane Society of the United States is to create a humane and sustainable world for all animals, including people, through education, advocacy, and the promotion of respect and compassion. Principal Research Programs: The HSUS believes that primates are socially complex animals capable of rich mental and emotional lives and therefore should not be kept as pets, or used for entertainment purposes, and their use in biomedical research should be aggressively phased out. The HSUS is pursuing an end to the use of chimpanzees in biomedical research in the near future. The HSUS also promotes the preservation of the wild primate populations and habitats. Our work on these issues includes outreach, public education and public policy.
