Mission: The SOCP aims to conserve the remaining wild Sumatran orangutan population. It is a multifaceted programme engaged in all aspects of Sumatran orangutan conservation including:
1. Rescue, quarantine and reintroduction of illegal pet orangutans;
2. Surveys and monitoring of remaining wild populations;
3. Research on conservation and behavioural ecology of wild orangutans;
4. Habitat conservation;
5. Conservation education and awareness raising.

Clientele: Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii)

Principal Research Programs: 1. Rescue, quarantine and reintroduction of illegal pet orangutans;
2. Surveys and monitoring of remaining wild populations;
3. Research on conservation and behavioural ecology of wild orangutans;
4. Habitat conservation;
5. Conservation education and awareness raising.

The SOCP is actively engaged in long term research on the orangutan populations of Ketambe, Suaq Balimbing and Batang Toru. We are also active in research on pre and post release ex-captive orangutans, in an attempt to improve reintroduction prospects for the species.

Training Opportunities: We work hard on educating Indonesian's regarding the importance of their environment and of orangutan conservation
