Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme (Established 2001)

Mission: The SOCP aims to conserve the remaining wild Sumatran orangutan population. It is a multifaceted programme engaged in all aspects of Sumatran orangutan conservation including: Clientele: Sumatran orangutan (Pongo abelii) Principal Research Programs: 1. Rescue, quarantine and reintroduction of illegal pet orangutans; Training Opportunities: We work hard on educating Indonesian's regarding the importance of their environment and of orangutan conservation Associated Field Sites: Batumbelin Orangutan Quarantine Centre, Desa Batumbelin, Sibolangit, North Sumatra, Indonesia.
